Pineapple has a bad
stigma in the community as a fruit with harmful side effects. One example of a
popular view is called pineapple is not well consumed pregnant women because it
can trigger a miscarriage.
According to dr.
Ridwan, SpOG, specialist from RSIA Kemang Medical Care, the basic view appears
because pineapple contains bromelain enzyme. The bromelain enzyme breaks down
proteins and can trigger contractions so that the pineapple is considered
harmful to the fetus.
"But the
amount of enzyme bromelain in pineapple is so small that consuming pineapple in
the usual amount is unlikely to cause bleeding or miscarriage," said Dr.
Ridwan.
